I am Sempai Gerry Hoogeveen Shodan Kyokushin Karate and training for 30 years. I have my own gym called Hoogeveen Gym Dordrecht which is located in Dordrecht, which I started in January 2020.
We teach Kyokushin Karate Full Contact, Kickboxing, Punching bag training, Boxing training, competition training and we are running every Saturday.
I myself have been active in the Kyokushin world for almost 30 years and have trained for 26 years under the wings of Shihan Jan Vleesenbeek and my father Shihan Ger Hoogeveen, who was raised the "hard way", with old-school Karate.
I myself have also been fanatical in the field of competitions, fought for 17 years in a row, and I still do that in a combination with coaching and guiding to this day. And that also includes training a competition team and just raising them according to the harsh Kyokushin system.
I have also been in the selection team of Shihan Eric Constancia and won both national and international trophies. Became European and Dutch heavyweight champion a number of times.
My plans in Karate are that I want to follow in my father's footsteps, also in international competitions and possibly become part of the organization as an (assistant) national coach at a later age.
Picking up the thread again after having fought for the last time six years ago to start training fanatically again after the summer and to realize my only dream again because multiple Dutch and European champion but never won a world title, so that I can try to end my fighting career at a World Cup in the end that is really my dream and then just enthusiastically working with my own fighters again.
My Dojo now has a mixed group of almost 75 members of Karatekas from young and old and also Kickboxers. Of which 15 fighters are now in our competition team, of which there are a number of them who I think have enough potential for abroad.
